Where do thank-you letters get e-mailed? Nowhere! A thank-you letter is a type of formal correspondence, and should not be sent electronically. To receive funding, you must write an actual letter to Central Coast Women for Fisheries and the Central Coast Joint Cable/Fisheries Liaison Committee, thanking both organizations for your scholarship. All correspondence should be sent to:
Central Coast Women for Fisheries
Scholarship Committee

Is it possible to get reimbursed for expenditures? Yes, upon receipt of the letter referred to above and copies of receipts or other proof of payment, Fishing Heritage Scholarship funds can either be disbursed directly to you or your parents, as reimbursement for expenditures. We will reimburse you for tuition, books and other supplies required by your school and/or professors. If your school or a professor requires some unusual item of equipment, you may also be reimbursed for this if you provide a copy of the syllabus or other documentation of the need. Funds paid directly to you or your parents may be considered taxable income reportable to the Internal Revenue Service. Please consult your tax professional.
I mailed in my letter over three weeks ago, when may I expect a check?CCWF is a volunteer organization, and so at times it may take up to six weeks to receive a reimbursement, especially over the winter holiday season.
Is there a deadline for submitting receipts? Yes. Your final request for reimbursements or payments for all 2007 awards must be postmarked no later than MAY 31, 2008. Any funds from your award which remain unused as of June 15, 2008, shall be deemed forfeited and shall revert back to the Fishing Heritage Scholarship Program’s Pooled Fund for redistribution during the next funding cycle.
Is my award taxable? Funds paid directly to you or your parents may be considered taxable income reportable to the Internal Revenue Service. Please see your tax professional for the answer to this question.
I withdrew from school, now what? If you withdrew from school during the semester (or quarter) immediately following any receipt of any funds from this program, you are required to notify our Scholarship Committee, in writing, within two weeks of such withdrawal. Additionally:
o Any monies which were made directly payable to you which relate
to such semester (or quarter) must be repaid within sixty (60)
days of such withdrawal from school; and
o Any monies which were paid directly to such school on your behalf
that are refunded to you must be repaid to within ten (10) days of
your receipt thereof.
In the event an unforeseen emergency caused your withdrawal from school, this provision may be appealed in writing to Scholarship Committee; however, their decision will be final.
Is my award renewable? Yes! As long as funding is available, successful scholars will continue to be eligible for Fishing Heritage Scholarships; provided they remain enrolled in school, maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA and annually by May 31 furnish the Scholarship Committee with a report of their grades for the school year, together with a written letter (not an e-mail) expressing their intent to remain in school for the coming year.
Do you have any clues for the "fishery management game" on page 4 of the application? If you do an internet search for the "duty," the descriptions were taken directly from the different organizations' websites, and your search engine should be able to help you find the answers. (Of course, it will also find the scholarship application, but look further!)
